My first trip to the Himalayas introduced me to the pleasures of exposure, snow, altitude sickness, landslides, terrorist threats and political unrest. Sometimes I wonder how I ever made it back a second time, but the sheer beauty and timelessness of the mountains and a love of photography brought me back. Modernisation is causing major changes to Nepal and I feel an urgency to record areas before they are irreparably altered. In 2014 I trekked to the Mustang region
and photographed the Tiji festival. Lo Manthang has modern pressures galore and it will be interesting to see how they cope with them over the next few years.
I'm now doing bird photography, which is somewhat challenging as I prefer prowling the bush rather than using a hide.
